Piperacillin & Tazobactam for Injection is a broad-spectrum combination antibiotic used to treat severe, complicated bacterial infections. It pairs piperacillin (a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria) with tazobactam (a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacteria from rendering the antibiotic ineffective).
Common conditions treated by this intravenous (IV) injection include:
- Respiratory Infections: Hospital-acquired and community-acquired pneumonia (including ventilator-associated pneumonia).
- Abdominal Infections: Complicated appendicitis, peritonitis, and gallbladder infections.
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Severe cellulitis and diabetic foot infections.
- Gynecological Infections: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and postpartum infections.
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Complicated infections of the kidneys and bladder.
- Systemic Infections: Bacterial septicemia (blood poisoning) and infections in patients with weakened immune systems or low white blood cell counts (febrile neutropenia).
