Pantoprazole injection is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat conditions with excess stomach acid. It is primarily prescribed as a short-term alternative for patients unable to take oral medication, or for managing severe acid overproduction.
Primary Medical Uses
- GERD with Erosive Esophagitis: Short-term treatment (7-10 days) of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in patients who have suffered damage (erosions) to the esophagus.
- Pathological Hypersecretion: Treats conditions where the stomach produces dangerously high levels of acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
- Peptic Ulcer Disease: Used in hospital settings to help heal active stomach or intestinal ulcers and prevent bleeding.
- Stress Ulcer Prophylaxis: Frequently administered in intensive care to prevent stress-induced ulcers in critically ill patients.
