Budesonide is a potent corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation in the body. Depending on the condition, it is prescribed as an inhaler (for breathing issues), an oral capsule or tablet (for gastrointestinal and kidney diseases), a nasal spray (for allergies), or a nebulizer solution.

Common Uses & Delivery Methods

1. Respiratory Conditions (Inhalers / Nebulizers)

  • Asthma: Used daily as a maintenance medication to prevent wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. Note: It is not a rescue inhaler for active asthma attacks.
  • COPD: Helps manage Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in adults.

2. Gastrointestinal Disorders (Oral Capsules / Liquid)

  • Crohn’s Disease: Treats mild to moderate active flare-ups and helps keep symptoms in remission.
  • Ulcerative Colitis: Used to get active, mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis under control.
  • Eosinophilic Esophagitis: Liquid formulations are prescribed to treat inflammation in the esophagus.

3. Allergies (Nasal Sprays)

  • Allergic Rhinitis: Relieves sneezing, itching, and a stuffy or runny nose caused by seasonal or year-round allergies.

4. Kidney & Other Conditions

  • IgA Nephropathy (IgAN): Delayed-release capsules are used to reduce protein levels in urine for patients at risk of kidney disease progression.
