Ceftriaxone-tazobactam injection is a broad-spectrum combination antibiotic used to treat severe or resistant bacterial infections. It combines a cephalosporin (ceftriaxone) to kill bacteria with a beta-lactamase inhibitor (tazobactam) that prevents bacteria from resisting the medication. It does not treat viral infections like the flu.
This injection is primarily administered in clinical or hospital settings to manage moderate-to-severe infections, including:
- Respiratory Tract: Pneumonia and severe bronchitis.
- Urinary System: Complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) and kidney infections (pyelonephritis).
- Abdominal & Pelvic: Intra-abdominal infections (like peritonitis) and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
- Skin and Soft Tissue: Cellulitis, wound infections, and severe skin structure infections.
- Bloodstream & Central Nervous System: Bacterial septicemia and meningitis.
- Bones and Joints: Osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.
- Surgical Prophylaxis: Used before procedures to prevent post-operative infections.
